UN Secretary General: Afghan immigrants should be supported
Coinciding with the International Day of Immigrants, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres met with some Afghan and Iraqi immigrant families in New York.
According to 34 News, Guterres said that these immigrants, like millions of other refugees in the world, are gaining a new life in American society and they should be supported. At the same time, on the occasion of International Migrants Day, Amnesty International has published a statement saying that the Afghan migrant crisis is one of the biggest and longest crises in the world. This organization added that more than 6 million Afghan citizens have been forced to leave their homes due to conflicts, violence and poverty, of which 3.5 million are internally displaced and 2.6 million are immigrants living in other countries. Amnesty International has said that the humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan has intensified after the political change on August 15, 2021. According to this organization, Afghan immigrants in Iran, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Malaysia and Turkey do not have their rights based on international laws and face discrimination and violence. This organization called for an immediate halt to the forced return of Afghan refugees and emphasized that the requests of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the suspension of the forced return should be taken into account. It should be mentioned that recently, Turkey and Iran have been deporting Afghan immigrants by force and misbehaving.
