34 news; HRW Express concern over Turkey’s ill-treatment of Afghan refugees, Human Rights Watch says that the country’s border guards have prevented tens of thousands of Afghan refugees from entering Turkey.
HRW said in a report today, Friday, November 18, that many Afghan citizens who entered Turkey through smuggling were arrested by the police and were often deported with torture and beatings. Human Rights Watch has added that in the past year, Turkey has increased the detention and forced deportation of Afghan citizens from this country.
The report states that Turkey did not give Afghan citizens who are leaving the country a chance to apply for asylum, and this country also prevented Afghans from registering in the United Nations office.
According to Human Rights Watch, Turkey has deported more than 44 thousand Afghan refugees from this country and transferred them to Kabul in the last eight months.
The findings of this organisation show that the process of forced deportation of Afghan citizens from Turkey has increased by 150% compared to the first eight months of last year.
It should be mentioned that according to some statistics, more than 400,000 Afghan refugees and migrants are living in Turkey.
